At expiry an option is worth only its intrinsic value: for a call, how far the underlying closed above the strike; for a put, how far below. The breakeven is the strike plus (call) or minus (put) the premium — the underlying has to get past it just to get your money back.
A buyer can lose at most the premium paid. A seller keeps at most the premium received and can lose far more — without limit on a sold call. Before expiry the price also carries time value, which this at-expiry view leaves out. Charges are extra; see the charges calculator.
